About
A temple first stood here in the ninth century, but Jeongjo rebuilt it in 1790 as a memorial to Crown Prince Sado, a rare act of royal patronage for Buddhism in Confucian Joseon. Its bronze bell, believed to date from the Unified Silla era, is a National Treasure, and the halls sit among wooded hills.
Best time to go: Pair it with the royal tombs nearby on the same half-day trip.
