About
Al Noor Mosque stands on the Buhaira Corniche beside the Khalid Lagoon. Its Ottoman design was influenced by the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul, with a central dome and slim minarets. It is one of the few among Sharjah's hundreds of mosques that are open to the public, which makes it a good introduction to Islamic architecture for visitors. In 2014 it also set a Guinness World Record for the largest wooden charity box, made for a Ramadan donation drive.
Best time to go: See it lit up at dusk from the Khalid Lagoon promenade; dress modestly if you join a tour inside.
