About
Unlike most Greek acropolises, that of ancient Rhodes was an open landscape of sanctuaries and public buildings rather than a fortress. Partly restored by Italian archaeologists, it includes the columns of the Temple of Pythian Apollo, a long stadium and a small marble theatre, with fine views to the west coast.
Best time to go: Go up for sunset, when the reconstructed columns turn gold and the sea glows beyond.
