About
Standing with the neighbouring Fort of Guadalupe on a ridge north-east of the centre, the stone fort was at the heart of the Battle of Puebla, when General Ignacio Zaragoza's outnumbered army repelled a French assault. It now houses a museum on the foreign interventions in Mexico, with weapons, uniforms and maps of the battle.
Best time to go: Pair it with a walk around the surrounding hilltop park, which gives broad views back over the city centre.
