About
Designed by Sir Herbert Baker and completed in 1913, the Union Buildings house the offices of the President. Their two wings are linked by a curved colonnade framing an amphitheatre, where Nelson Mandela was inaugurated in 1994. The formal gardens below are open to visitors and are dominated by a nine-metre bronze statue of Mandela.
Best time to go: Visit in October or November, when the jacarandas below the terraced gardens are in full bloom.
