About
Built by convict labour in the 1850s, the prison held inmates until 1991 and is one of the best preserved of its kind. Guided tours explore the cell blocks, the gallows and the flooded tunnels dug beneath the site, and it forms part of the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage listing.
Best time to go: Book one of the guided tours, and choose the tunnels tour if you enjoy a little adventure.
