Once criticised as an eyesore, the tower was the tallest structure in the world until 1930. Lifts and stairs climb to two levels and a summit at 276 metres. Every evening it sparkles for five minutes at the start of each hour.
Best time to go: Book a timed ticket; the top at sunset, then watch it sparkle on the hour after dark.
