About
Inaugurated in 1914, the monument by the Uruguayan sculptor Juan Manuel Ferrari commemorates the army that General San Martín assembled in Mendoza before crossing the Andes in 1817 to liberate Chile. Its bronze reliefs show the preparations and the crossing, and the summit gives wide views across the city to the mountains.
Best time to go: Go up in the late afternoon, when the light on the Andes and the city below is at its warmest.
