About
Built after 1872 to thank the Virgin for sparing the city, the basilica mixes Byzantine and Romanesque styles, with dazzling mosaics inside. The esplanade in front gives the best view over Lyon's rooftops and rivers.
Best time to go: Late afternoon, then watch the sunset over the city from the esplanade; the funicular saves the climb.
