About
The gallery holds more than two thousand paintings, from medieval altarpieces to the Impressionists. Highlights include Van Eyck's Arnolfini Portrait, Leonardo's Virgin of the Rocks, Turner's Fighting Temeraire and Van Gogh's Sunflowers, and the portico steps give a fine view down Whitehall.
Best time to go: Weekday mornings are quietest; start in the Sainsbury Wing with the early Italian painters.
