About
The Old Fort and the prisons around it held thousands of people, among them Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, as well as countless ordinary South Africans jailed under pass laws. The notorious Number Four block and the Women's Jail can be visited. Beside them stands the Constitutional Court, opened in 2004 and partly built with bricks from the demolished cells.
Best time to go: Take a guided tour to understand the prison blocks, then visit the Constitutional Court.
