About
Hội An Old Town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. It is a well-preserved example of a Southeast Asian trading port that flourished between the 15th and 19th centuries, when merchants from China, Japan and further afield settled here. Its narrow streets of wooden shophouses, temples and assembly halls lie along the Thu Bồn River. In 2023 Hội An also joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
Best time to go: Walk the lanes early in the morning before the crowds, and return at dusk when the lanterns are lit.
