About
Laid out in the nineteenth century as part of the city's expansion beyond its old fortifications, the avenue is lined with restaurants, bars and shops. It climbs gently from the canal to Götaplatsen, where Carl Milles's statue of Poseidon stands before the art museum, concert hall and city theatre.
Best time to go: Walk up the avenue towards Götaplatsen in the evening, stopping at a café terrace on the way.
