About
Laid out in the seventeenth century by Jahanara, Shah Jahan's daughter, the avenue once had a canal running down its centre that reflected the moonlight. Today its side lanes specialise in everything from wedding finery to spices, and along the way you pass Jain, Hindu and Sikh shrines as well as some of the city's most celebrated street food.
Best time to go: Take a cycle rickshaw through the lanes in the late morning, then stop for parathas and sweets.
