About
Built for the pharaohs Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure around four and a half thousand years ago, the pyramids stand on the Giza plateau at the edge of the desert. The Great Pyramid was the tallest structure on earth for thousands of years. Around them lie queens' pyramids, mastaba tombs of officials and the pits that once held royal boats, and it is possible to crawl inside some of the pyramids.
Best time to go: Arrive at opening to beat the heat and crowds, and ride out to the desert viewpoint for the classic line of all three.
