About
The bazaar grew from a caravanserai founded in the fourteenth century by a Mamluk emir, and trading has continued here ever since. Its lanes are packed with brass lanterns, perfume bottles, jewellery and spices, and it sits in the heart of Islamic Cairo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stopping for mint tea at the centuries-old El Fishawy café is a Cairo ritual.
Best time to go: Come in the evening, when the lanes are lit and El Fishawy café is at its liveliest.
