About
Named after the May Revolution of 1810 that began Argentina's path to independence, the square has been the stage for the country's great political moments. The white May Pyramid stands at its centre, and since 1977 the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo have marched here in memory of the children who disappeared under the military dictatorship.
Best time to go: Visit on a Thursday afternoon to see the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, who still walk here in their white headscarves.
