About
Built over about a century from the 1820s, the island's museums were conceived as a sanctuary for art and learning. The Altes Museum, Neues Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, Bode Museum and Pergamon Museum together span antiquity to the nineteenth century, with highlights such as the bust of Nefertiti. The Pergamon is undergoing a long renovation.
Best time to go: Choose one or two museums per day; the Neues Museum and its bust of Nefertiti are an ideal start.
