About
Akbar rebuilt the fort from 1565, and Jahangir and Shah Jahan added palaces and halls, the latter in gleaming white marble. Shah Jahan spent his final years confined here by his son Aurangzeb, looking downriver towards his wife's tomb, and the fort's halls, courtyards and mosques form a World Heritage Site of their own.
Best time to go: Visit in the afternoon and look for the view of the Taj Mahal from the marble Musamman Burj.
