Formed when the river Alster was dammed in the Middle Ages, the Inner Alster is lined with handsome hotels, shops and offices. The Jungfernstieg promenade and its landing stages sit on the southern shore, a tall fountain plays in summer, and beyond the Lombard Bridge the much larger Outer Alster opens up for sailing and rowing.
Meilleur moment pour y aller: Stroll the Jungfernstieg promenade at dusk, or take an Alster steamer out onto the lakes.
