À propos
For centuries the Vrijdagmarkt was the stage for public life in Ghent, from festivals to executions. A statue of Jacob van Artevelde, the fourteenth-century leader who allied the city with England, stands in the centre, while cafés and guild houses surround the square and the socialist Ons Huis building recalls later history.
Meilleur moment pour y aller: Visit on a Friday morning, when the weekly market that gave the square its name is in full swing.
