Built in the mid-fourteenth century for the Mamluk sultan an-Nasir Hasan, this was one of the most ambitious buildings of its age. A towering entrance portal leads to a courtyard surrounded by four vaulted halls, each devoted to one of the schools of Sunni law. Its sheer scale and austere grandeur make it one of the most impressive interiors in Cairo.
