The domed Mercado da Ribeira has fed the city since the late nineteenth century, and half of it now hosts dozens of counters run by respected chefs and local institutions. It is an easy way to sample custard tarts, grilled fish, cured ham and Portuguese wines under one roof, while the traditional produce market still trades in the morning.
