Built as a covered market for cloth merchants and rebuilt in Renaissance style after a fire in 1555, the Sukiennice is lined with stalls selling amber, lace and wooden crafts. Upstairs, a branch of the National Museum displays nineteenth-century Polish painting and sculpture.
