Founded in 1935, SFMOMA moved to its current site in 1995 and was greatly expanded in 2016 with a rippled white extension by Snøhetta. Its collection includes works by Matisse, Warhol, Rothko and Frida Kahlo, as well as a major photography holding. Free public spaces on the ground floor display large works.
