Fort Cornwallis is a bastion fort built by the British East India Company on the point where George Town was founded. It takes its name from the 2nd Earl Cornwallis, then Governor-General of Bengal. The fort was meant to guard against attack during the Napoleonic Wars, a threat that never came. It is the largest standing fort in Malaysia and a good starting point for the colonial quarter.
Beste Besuchszeit: Visit in the early evening and continue along the Esplanade seafront next to the fort.
