Vast Franciscan basilica holding the tombs of Michelangelo, Galileo and Machiavelli, plus frescoes by Giotto.
Often called the Temple of Italian Glories, Santa Croce is the burial place of Michelangelo, Galileo, Machiavelli and Rossini, with a memorial to Dante. Giotto's frescoes in the Bardi and Peruzzi chapels are milestones of Western painting, and Brunelleschi's Pazzi Chapel in the cloister is a small masterpiece of proportion.
Beste Besuchszeit: Mid-afternoon on a weekday; the square outside is lively in the evening.

The whole historic centre is a ZTL watched by cameras at every entry gate. Without a permit you are fined by post, often months later and through your rental company. Sectors A, B and O apply Monday to Friday 7:30 to 20:00 and Saturday 7:30 to 16:00; from April to early October a night ZTL also runs on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Park outside and walk in.
