Borj El Kebir, also called Borj El Ghazi Mustapha, is an old fortress on the shore at Houmt Souk. It is the largest and best-preserved castle on the island and one of Djerba's most visited historic sites. Its position by the sea recalls an island that was fought over many times, as the several battles and sieges of Djerba show, and it pairs naturally with a morning in the souk.
