The Fyris divides the city between its historic academic and ecclesiastical quarter on the west bank and the commercial centre to the east. Footbridges, riverside cafés and willow-lined paths make it a pleasant place to stroll, and every spring students race home-made rafts down its waters.
Best time to go: Walk the riverside paths on a summer evening, when cafés spill out along the banks.
