About
Once known as Jbel el-Menar, the village takes its present name from the religious figure Abu Said al-Baji. Its whitewashed houses with blue doors and shutters have made it one of the most popular places to visit in Tunisia. In 2026 UNESCO inscribed it as a World Heritage Site, recognising its architectural harmony, spiritual heritage and Mediterranean character. The TGM train from Tunis stops nearby.
Best time to go: Arrive in the morning before the day-trip crowds, or stay on for the evening light over the bay.
