About
First proposed in the 1860s, the museum has occupied a former palace of the beys since 1888. It is among the most important museums in the Mediterranean and the second largest in Africa after the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. Its galleries trace several thousand years of Tunisian history across many civilisations, and it holds the largest collection of mosaics in the world.
Best time to go: Arrive at opening and give the mosaic halls most of your time; allow at least half a day.
