The tower was built after the Ottoman conquest to guard the harbour, and for a time served as a notorious prison. Whitewashed after the city became Greek in 1912, it now holds a museum of the city's history across its floors, and its roof terrace looks along the promenade and across the Thermaic Gulf.
Beste Besuchszeit: Climb to the rooftop in the late afternoon, then join the locals strolling the waterfront at sunset.
