About
The monument commemorates the Battle of Hafrsfjord, traditionally dated to 872, when Harald Fairhair is said to have united Norway under one king. Created by the sculptor Fritz Røed and unveiled in 1983, the swords stand about ten metres tall. They symbolise peace, unity and freedom, set against the open fjord.
Best time to go: Combine it with a walk or swim along the shores of Hafrsfjord on a fine day.
