About

When it opened in 1937 it was the longest suspension bridge in the world, a feat achieved across fierce currents and frequent fog. Its colour, known as International Orange, was chosen to stand out against the sea and sky. Pedestrians can cross its full length, with views of the city, the bay and the Pacific.

Best time to go: Walk or cycle across in the morning, then look back from Battery Spencer on the Marin side if the fog allows.
