About
Completed in 1931, the statue was designed by the French sculptor Paul Landowski, with the engineering by Heitor da Silva Costa, and is built of reinforced concrete clad in soapstone tiles. Standing around 30 metres tall on a granite peak within Tijuca National Park, it offers a sweeping view over the bay, the beaches and Sugarloaf.
Best time to go: Take the cog railway up early on a clear morning, before cloud gathers on the summit and crowds build.
