About
The fort began as a Martello tower in the 1830s and was greatly extended through the nineteenth century as Pula grew into the main base of the Austro-Hungarian navy. Its moat, gun positions and vaulted rooms give a vivid sense of the ring of fortifications that once surrounded the city.
Best time to go: Go in the late afternoon for the sea views from its ramparts at sunset.
