About
From the outside it is a modest rural church, but inside every surface is filled with polychrome stucco of cherubs, fruit, flowers and faces modelled by local indigenous craftsmen. The work blends Catholic imagery with a native sense of abundance, and the effect beneath the gilded dome is both exuberant and deeply personal.
Best time to go: Combine it with the Great Pyramid of Cholula and nearby San Francisco Acatepec in a single half-day outing.
