About
The Vigeland installation is the lifework of the sculptor Gustav Vigeland, who shaped the layout and the figures in bronze, granite and wrought iron. An axis runs from the main gates across a bridge lined with lively human figures to a fountain and finally the towering Monolith, carved from a single block of stone. Around it, lawns, rose gardens and ponds fill with picnickers in summer.
Best time to go: Come early in the morning to see the Monolith and the bridge sculptures before the tour groups arrive.
