About
The tree is thought to be well over a thousand years old, and its trunk is so broad that it takes a line of many people to encircle it. It stands beside a whitewashed church in the small town of Santa María del Tule, and local guides enjoy pointing out animals and figures in the gnarled bark.
Best time to go: Combine it with a morning trip east along the valley, and ask the local children to point out shapes in the bark.
