About
A gift from the people of France, the statue was designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, with an internal framework by Gustave Eiffel, and dedicated in 1886. For millions of immigrants arriving by sea it was the first sight of America. Ferries to Liberty Island usually continue to Ellis Island, where the immigration museum tells their stories.
Best time to go: Book ferry and pedestal or crown tickets well ahead, and take an early boat to avoid the longest queues.
