About
First built in 1801 as a small shrine in Prabhadevi, the temple has grown into a busy multi-storey complex crowned by a gilded dome. Devotees queue to see the black stone image of Ganesh, whose trunk curves to the right, and the steady stream of offerings of flowers and sweets reflects the deity's special place in the life of the city.
Best time to go: Avoid Tuesdays, the busiest day for worshippers, and expect a security check at the entrance.
