About
The canals are a surviving fragment of the lake system that once surrounded Tenochtitlan, lined with chinampas, the farming islands built up by pre-Hispanic peoples. Brightly painted trajineras carry visitors past floating mariachi bands and food vendors, and the area forms part of the city's UNESCO World Heritage listing.
Best time to go: Hire a trajinera on a weekday morning for a calm trip, or come on a Sunday to join the local party.
