About
Once the royal gardens of the Buen Retiro palace, the park opened to the public in 1868. Row a boat on the lake below the Alfonso XII monument, then visit the Crystal Palace, built in 1887 as a greenhouse.
Best time to go: Sunday mornings, when musicians and puppet shows fill the paths.
