About
Housed in the Madre de Deus convent, founded in 1509, the museum traces the azulejo from Moorish-influenced patterns to blue-and-white Baroque panels and modern designs. Its highlights include a long tiled panorama of Lisbon made before the 1755 earthquake and a dazzling gilded church interior.
Best time to go: Take a taxi or bus east of the centre and allow time for the gilded chapel.
