About
The Armenian oil magnate Calouste Gulbenkian spent his last years in Lisbon and left his remarkable collection to the city. Set in modernist buildings surrounded by landscaped gardens, the galleries hold Islamic ceramics, Chinese porcelain, European paintings by Rembrandt and Rubens, and a celebrated room of Art Nouveau jewellery.
Best time to go: Allow time for the gardens around the museum, which are a quiet retreat on a hot day.
