About
Founded in 796 when Kyoto became the capital, Tō-ji's five-storey pagoda rises 55 metres and is a symbol of the city. Its halls hold important Buddhist statues, and a monthly flea market fills the grounds.
Best time to go: The 21st of each month, for the large flea market in its grounds.
