About
Originally a shogun's retirement villa from the 14th century, the pavilion was rebuilt in 1955 after a monk burned it down. Its upper floors are covered in gold leaf. The path loops around the pond and garden.
Best time to go: At opening, around 9 am, or on a sunny afternoon when the gold reflects in the pond.
