Cat Museum

A museum entirely about cats, a play on the city's name, which sounds like the Malay word for cat.

About

Opened in 1993, the Kuching Cat Museum is housed in the headquarters of Kuching North City Hall, which owns it. It was the first museum in the world devoted entirely to cats. The theme is a nod to the city's name, since 'kucing' means cat in Malay. It lies north of the river, a short drive from the waterfront, and makes a light-hearted break from the heritage sights.

Best time to go: Take a taxi from the waterfront, and combine it with the other sights on the north bank of the river.
