About
Founded by Augustinian canons in the late twelfth century, the priory was later enclosed by strong defensive walls and towers. The extensive ruins stand in open countryside by the King's River and give a vivid sense of how a medieval religious house was fortified.
Best time to go: Go on a calm evening and walk the full circuit of the walls by the King's River.
