About
Founded in the twelfth century and later given to the Cistercians, Jerpoint became one of the wealthiest abbeys in Ireland until its suppression in 1540. Its cloister arcade is carved with knights, saints, dragons and other characters full of humour, and the church holds fine medieval tombs.
Best time to go: Pair it with a drive through the Nore valley villages of Thomastown and Inistioge.
